Jeff Berkowitz w/State Rep. Candidate Biela
Tonight’s Chicago Metro North and Northwest suburban edition of Public Affairs features State Rep. Candidate Amanda Biela (R-Edgebrook), who is challenging 14 year Democrat incumbent, John D’Amico, in the 15th State House District, with the support of the House Republican Organization (“HRO”).
Tonight’s show featuring State Rep. Candidate Amanda Biela (R-Edgebrook), airs in 24 North and Northwest suburbs at 8:30 pm:
on Cable Ch. 19 in Buffalo Grove, Elk Grove Village, Hoffman Estates, parts of Inverness, Lincolnwood, Morton Grove, Niles, Northfield, Palatine, Rolling Meadows and Wilmette and
on Cable Ch. 35 in Arlington Heights, Bartlett, Glenview, Golf, Des Plaines, Hanover Park, Mt. Prospect, Northbrook, Park Ridge, Prospect Heights, Schaumburg, Skokie, Streamwood and Wheeling.
The show also airs twice daily in Evanston, 8:30 am and 8:30 pm, Cable Ch. 6, starting tonight and continuing through next Monday.
The War between the Jeanne Ives-Illinois Policy Institute faction of the GOP [Illinois Opportunity Project (“IOP”), a spin-off of the Policy Institute] and the Gov. Rauner faction of the State GOP [HRO] continues, with the legislative candidates in IL tending to get the support of HRO or IOP, but not both.
The IL GOP needs to pick up nine seats in the Illinois House to get a majority and boot Speaker Madigan out of his more than 3 decade position of Il House Speaker.
The 15th State House District is probably viewed by most as a Tier 2 shot for the State GOP. Candidate Biela is a very presentable and thoughtful candidate, but she is up against, as Biela puts it, a half century family machine that has had a lock on the 39th Ward seat and the 15thDistrict seat. Even indictments have not broken that stranglehold. What else is new. It is the Chicago way!
The 15th State House District is about half in the NW part of the City of Chicago (primarily 39th ward, including Sauganash, Mayfair, Wildwood, Petersen Park area and Edgebrook) and half in the suburbs: Niles, Morton Grove, southern part of Glenview and parts of Park Ridge.
The 15th is home to many police officers, firemen and firewomen and CPS teachers. It is a fav residential location for city employees who have to live in the City.
Discussed tonight are the high burdens in Illinois of the State income tax, local property taxes, lack of reforms that might be useful to reduce property taxes, the benefits of “Hard 1% Market Value Property Tax caps,” and what can be done to deal with the implosion of State and Local government employee pension costs.
The show host just started to raise with the guest at the end of the show the fact, as noted by this past Friday’s Wall St. Journal, citing to a Wilmette, IL think tank, Wirepoints, Inc. that accrued IL State Government pension liabilities increased from 2003 to 2016 three times faster than IL disposable incomes.
So, it seems like IL, with about 200 billion dollars in state government pension liabilities may want to ask the Feds for the power to declare bankruptcy. And, IL may want to give its local governments the power to declare bankruptcy as a way for them to deal with their imploding local government pension costs. Watch State Rep. Skillicorn on IL and local government bankruptcy here and watch Wirepoints’ President, Ted Dabrowski, on dealing with imploding state and local government employee pension costs here.
Candidate Biela seemed to say the bankruptcy issue is something she will have to consider. By the time of the election, Amanda Biela and her Democratic Party opponent may need to have a specific answer to this question for the voters. It may either be bankruptcy or astronomical increases in taxes for most IL residents.
